Health Ministry issues new regulations for private pharmacies
Kuwait:
Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi on Sunday
issued a comprehensive ministerial decision regulating private pharmacy licenses
and setting strict controls for the circulation of medicines and medical
products across the country. In a press statement, the ministry said the
decision aims to strengthen the drug control system, consolidate governance
principles in the pharmaceutical sector, ensure drug safety, and enhance
community health, while promoting efficient professional practice within
integrated legal and professional frameworks.
The ministry added that the decision aligns with
ongoing efforts to modernize the regulatory framework for private sector
pharmacies and keep pace with rapid developments in pharmaceutical and
regulatory services. It supports the objectives of Kuwait Vision 2035 by
advancing the health system and ensuring sustainable drug security. Described as
a qualitative shift in regulating the relationship between pharmacists and the
community, the decision establishes clear guidelines for licensing, management,
and operation of pharmacies. It also tightens controls over drug storage,
dispensing, pricing, advertising, and delivery services to ensure safe,
transparent, and responsible professional practices.
Comprising 13 articles, the decision covers all
aspects of private pharmacy operations, from establishment to closure or
liquidation, aiming to promote disciplined professional conduct and protect
consumer health. The ministry emphasized that the decision reflects its vision
of building an organized and safe pharmaceutical sector that fosters innovation
and professionalism while safeguarding patients and society within an integrated
health system founded on principles of justice and transparency.
